Rust Doctor to Restore Vintage Ambulance

January 15, 2002
The professionals on the Rust Doctor team wanted to restore a vehicle using Rust Doctor products. There were a number of options, including hot rods, classic cars and panel trucks. After considerable discussion, it was decided a vintage ambulance would be the best project to represent the Rust Doctor. After an extensive search, a 1969 Pontiac Ambulance was found in Apache Junction, Arizona. The ambulance was built by Superior Coach Works in Mississippi for a regional health care center in Windover, Utah.
Over 20 feet long and weighing 6,000 lbs, the Pontiac Ambulance has upper body rust as well as rust on lower panels and frame from years of exposure to road salt. All rust will be treated with Rust Doctor products. In addition to painting and body work, a electronically controlled fuel injected 455 cubic inch engine will be installed and the interior redone.
Rust Doctor stops rust and converts it to a hard black coating that protects the metal from future rusting. A clear primer is left on the surface, which allows for painting directly over the previously rusted surface. Without the Rust Doctor process, the rust would have to be completely removed before the surface could be primed and painted.
Anyone wanting to watch the progress of this restoration process, can go to TheRustDoctor.com. Each step of the process will be photographed and posted on the Rust Doctor web site. When completed, the Rust Doctor Ambulance will travel around the country to car shows to promote Rust Doctor products.
